Tom Fudge: Getting around San Diego is a major consideration in urban design. And one environmental group called SOFAR didn't think the city was giving it enough thought in the Downtown Community Plan. The group, whose full name is Save Our Forests and Ranchlands, argued the downtown plan forsaw continuing growth. But it didn't have a vision for how to get people in and out of central San Diego, aside from using cars. Would downtown become one huge parking lot? Messages were exchanged. Lawyers called lawyers. In the end, there was no SOFAR lawsuit, but the city did agree to come up with a new transportation plan.
