The grill of Hill

Hillary Clinton got a grilling from Steve Inskeep on Morning Edition this morning. And it seems to me, the experience of a lifetime of politics really shows in an interview like that. Some deft sidestepping, followed by a direct answer to a question that was not asked, rounded out with a bit of humor. I know some people don't like politicians who have these skills, but I do. It provides a nice give and take between a candidate and a skillful interviewer. And, it gives me reassurance that the politician is not going to get herself in trouble anytime soon with a stupid answer to a provocative question. But then again...you never know.
Speaking of political mishaps, I feel a little like the "leave Brittany alone!" guy from the famous YouTube video...I want everyone to leave Eliot Spitzer alone. Actually I want them to leave his wife alone. This poor woman joins the legions of other political wives who've had to stand next to their jerky husbands for the "Big Humiliation" news conference. The sooner Governor Spitzer recedes from the headlines, the sooner Mrs. Spitzer can discreetly file divorce papers.
From a political sideshow to a potential human tragedy, we heard from our Amy Isackson on the rescue of 15 Mexicans from a boat adrift for days off the coast of San Diego. It is a suspected immigrant smuggling boat, and the story of the risks people take to get here can be heartbreaking.
