New Climate Change Report For San Diego

Researchers have come up with an action plan for San Diego County to use in preparing for climate change. A UC-San Diego scientist says it's the first plan of this type at the county level in California.  KPBS Environmental Reporter Ed Joyce has details.

The report from researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography shows ways the county can adapt to rising sea levels, persistent droughts, and other changes linked to global warming.

Dan Cayan is a climate scientist with Scripps and one of the author's of the study.

He says the region's climate is changing at a pace that is unprecedented historically.

Cayan: We're seeing now, quite clearly, the early signs of climate change that is induced by human activities.

He says the report is a foundation to guide the county's future policies to prepare for the effects of climate change.

Cayan says planning now can reduce and manage those potential risks to the county's land, water, air and health.

He says the study is the most comprehensive analysis of climate change at the county level in California.
