Tom Fudge: The election is a week away, and we're going to spend this week bringing you election coverage. Now, These Days focuses on the City of San Diego, and the race for City Council in the 7th District. District 7 is located in the East-Central part of San Diego. Its neighborhoods include Del Cerro, Grantville, San Carlos, Tierrasanta and the College Area, which happens to be where we are right now, in KPBS studios.
District 7 is suburban in character and it's mostly white. It is politically diverse, with Democrats and Republicans quite equally represented among registered voters. In fact, in this non-partisan race we have a Repubican who is facing off against a Democrat. The Democrat is Marti Emerald. The Republican is April Boling.
