What's Endangering Local Journalism & Internet Access?

Maureen Cavanaugh : Everytime you turn around lately, there seems to be some shocking change to the nation's media landscape. Last month Denver's Rocky Mountain News stopped publishing.  This week, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer stopped publishing and became an internet news source.  And of course, just yesterday came the news that the San Diego Union-Tribune will not be a locally-owned newspaper anymore. It's been sold to a LA-based private equity firm.

Behind the headlines of sales and bankruptcies in the newspaper world, and broadcast news outlets cutting staff and trimming programming, is the question: what kind of news will we be getting when the dust settles?  Will there be any room for hard, investigative journalism and will the Internet stand up to the challenge of being a reliable and accessible news source?
