Martin Clunes ("Men Behaving Badly") returns for the fifth season of DOC MARTIN as the brash doctor Martin Ellingham, whose blunt opinions and tactless manner cause mayhem in a small Cornish community. Ellingham – once a celebrated London surgeon – flees from his position after developing a phobia to blood. After retraining as a general practitioner, Ellingham gets a job in the beautiful but sleepy village of Portwenn replacing their deceased local doctor. But his abrasive personality doesn’t exactly mesh with the pace of life in Cornwall.

DOC MARTIN Episode Guide

View a complete guide to seasons one through four of the hit British comedy series DOC MARTIN, starring Martin Clunes and Caroline Catz.

In this fifth season, Doc Martin continues to deal with the strange cases and stranger personalities of Portwenn. He deals with the mysterious illnesses and odd events that plague the town, including a hub-cap stealing intruder on a local farm, a culinary showdown during the town's "Fun Day" and a resident who may be being slowly poisoned by her son.

"Ever After" Episode Eight, Season Five (SEASON FINALE) airs Thursday, May 10 at 9 p.m. - Mrs. Tishell's (Selina Cadell) long-standing crush on Dr. Martin Ellingham takes a dramatic turn in this final episode in the series.

Fuelled by a cocktail of drugs Mrs. Tishell can no longer hide her unrequited love for the doc, and decides she must take drastic action.

Her husband Clive (Malcolm Storry) arrives back unexpectedly from his work on the oil rigs announcing his intention to retire so they can spend more time together. It’s now or never for Mrs. Tishell to make her romantic notions of a relationship with the doc come true.

With Doc and Louisa's baby in her care, she boards a bus out of the village leaving an enigmatic message for Dr. Ellingham to meet them at the castle.

I hope you will continue the series. There is so much opportunity for comedy in the raising of their child and the rest of the characters in the community.

When will you be broadcasting Series 5? It's already available in Australia, and Doc Martin is one of the best series PBS has ever broadcast with terrific acting (many clinical nuances are spot on, which is almost unheard of from a physician's perspective), writing and production values.

Thanks so much for your feedback! This show has been really popular. Last time I talked with our program director, he told me that he was going to air new episodes as soon as they're available to us. I'm not sure when that will be. I'll ask him and see what I can tell you. Until then... stay tuned!

Tammy Carapowich. Please clarify "available to us." Do the program's producers deny your station's program director requests to purchase the series? Paradox and dellapique's information that continuation of the series is available elsewhere verifies a conversation I heard at a coffee shop among several people that friends in other parts of the U.S. DO receive the continuation of Doc Martin.

Wow! I'm so glad y'all like it so much! We'll air the show sometime in the spring. That's when the BBC makes the rights available to us (KPBS and other public television stations). I can't speak for how the BBC manages their rights with other media. But I do know that we've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the show, and we are anxiously awaiting the new season!

That is great news! I can't wait! The show vaguely reminds me of the other charming British series that aired on public tv when I was a kid - All Creatures Great and Small. Both shows had great character development and wonderful scenery. Thanks KPBS for bringing us this show! I will continue my support!!

This is my favorite show on TV! Can't get enough. Looking forward to Series 5 being aired the end of March! And I understand there will be a series 6!

I would love it if PBS could air the series William and Mary (another Martin Clunes family drama). I know my mom's public station in Orange County is getting it and I was hoping we could get it here in San Diego too! It's a wonderful series. And as I'm thinking about it, Martin Clunes: Horsepower was playing in Orange County too (as you can see I'm a huge Martin Clunes fan!)

I have good news from our programming department! Doc Martin is back on Thursday, 3/29 beginning at 8 p.m. It’s a 3-hour special event beginning with the last episode of season 4 followed by the first two new episodes of season 5.

@Martin, we don't have any plans for William and Mary at this time, but thanks so much for the suggestion!

Doc Martin is THE "must-see" program for me. I've seen re-runs (thanks, KPBS) going back to when "Doc" was more interested in his patients as persons, even showing compassion. It seems like the producers decided that a "crusty" Martin better suited their purposes. I think the "new" Martin is more interesting. Thanks for telling us the plot of Episode Eight, airing next week. Please tell us in advance the plots of every episode, It saves us the bother of watching it.

Well KPBS got it wrong again - March 29 aired episode 1 only. In second hour where they said would be episode 2, was Rick Steves. Don't know about other public broadcasting stations but this (programming changes without notice) is business as usual at San Diego KPBS.

concernedlisteners: We aired the second Doc episode at 10pm. What you saw was a 5 minute interstitial with Rick Steves that we aired immediately following the first episode of Doc Martin at about 9:50p. Sorry for the confusion.
