Forty drivers were cited for allegedly talking on cell phones as part of a push by police in Chula Vista to nab distracted motorists.

Patrol officers set out from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday to catch drivers talking on their cell phones, according to Chula Vista police Officer Alicia Chudy.

Additionally, one motorist was caught driving with a suspended license and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days, according to Chudy, in a statement.

Chula Vista police received funding for the operation from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Too bad they don't ticket themselves. I've seen cops on phones while driving more times than I can count.

Nothing leaves a worse taste in your mouth than a hypocritical authority.
