The University of California at San Diego announced a new partnership with Mexico today. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details from Tijuana.
UCSD President Mary Anne Fox announced four new initiatives aimed at improving life on both sides of the border. The first seeks to improve air quality and will be headed by a Nobel Prize winning chemist.
The second will create a science and technology center on the border. Third, UCSD economists will team with Mexican academics and policy makers to help restructure Mexico's economy. And last, a UCSD representative will be stationed full time in Mexico City to boost educational collaboration.
Private investors have donated $650,000 to support the project so far. The programs are expected to begin operating in the next few months. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.
