Approaching Rain May Not Ease Drought

An approaching storm may deliver some rain to San Diego County this weekend.  Forecasters say the wet weather will most likely hit Saturday. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce tells us the rain won't ease the region's dry winter.

National Weather Service forecaster Mike Lavis says San Diego County coastal and valleys can expect up to one-half-inch of rain this weekend and the mountains could get up to an inch of the wet stuff. Lavis says the region is more than four inches below normal this winter.

Lavis: Any rainfall is going to be helpful and beneficial for the area. But it will take at least several systems to start making a difference in terms of overall rainfall amounts.

The wet weather is expected to ease off by Monday. But Lavis says a colder storm could bring more showers on Tuesday along with snow in higher elevations of the county. The city of San Diego hasn't recorded an inch of rain in a single week since March 2005. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
