Professors and staff at two California State University campuses in San Diego County will vote on whether they want to strike as a result of stalled labor negotiations with the CSU administration. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
San Diego State and Cal State San Marcos faculty members are expected to vote early next month. They join professors and staff at 22 other CSU campuses in casting their ballots. This is the first time the California Faculty Association is asking its members for a strike vote. The CFA and the CSU administration haven't been able to settle on a new labor contract since 2005. Cal State San Marcos union leader Janet Powell says the CFA is taking action because it's fed up with CSU management.
Powell: We've talked about job actions in the past because this has become a pattern where we're not able to get a contract but it has never gone this far.
Powell says the union wants a 25 percent salary increase over the next four years. Rolling walkouts could take place at CSU campuses in April if union members approve a strike.
