Tom Fudge: Jazz music is about a hundred years old. And many generations of musicians have become a part of that world of rhythm and improvisation. Ali Jackson Jr. is a member of the new generation of jazz. His very name provides a hint to a long family tradition of music. His father is Ali Jackson Sr, a bassist who performed with the likes of John Coltrane. Ali Jr. took lessons from some legendary jazz drummers. He is now the drummer for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, which is directed by Winton Marsalis.
The Ali Jackson Quartet, featuring the Rhythm Section of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, performs at Dizzy's this Wednesday, March 8 at 8:00 p.m. ($15, $10 for students).
