San Diego County politicians are asking state lawmakers to keep their hands off local tax dollars.
Politicians from around the county say about $56 million in locally generated tax dollars are at risk.
Solana Beach councilmember Joe Kellejian says the state needs to learn to live within its means in order to avoid another fiscal crisis.
Kellejian: Really, the voters have already spoken. Keep your hands off of our money. We're just driving the point home. We want them to have cuts in their budget, we'll look at revenues, but keep your hands off of local government. You make the cuts where you're supposed to and that's at the state level.
Kellejian says diverting county funds would force cities to cut back on important services like public safety or street improvements.
The state is working to close a $15 billion budget gap.
Officials say the San Diego City Council will pass a resolution Tuesday asking the state not to seize any more local funds.
