Alison St John : Robert Bateman's wildlife painting takes you out into nature. It's almost as good as going for a walk in some remote landscape, except that in some ways it's better.
You get to see the animals that live there up close. The deer standing in dappled shadows by a fences, the black bear leaning out over a granite ledge. Or a cottontail rabbit half hidden in a pile of crisp dry autumn leaves.
Bateman's painting are not just designed to be beautiful. They remind us vividly of the world of nature out there, that we're in danger of forgetting in our urban lives.
