Hundreds of firefighters are battling a wildfire that has forced the evacuation of about 2,400 residents in Santa Cruz Mountains.
Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation Thursday morning for the entire community of Bonny Doon, which has about 2,000 residents and is located roughly eight miles north of Santa Cruz.
A mandatory evacuation order has also been issued for nearby community of Swanton, which has about 400 people.
State fire officials say the blaze started shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday. It has grown to about 2,300 acres, or 3.6 square miles, and is at zero containment.
Further down the coast, officials say a 46-square-mile blaze on the edge of the Los Padres National Forest in northern Santa Barbara County is about 10 percent contained.
