Cal Fire is battling the Chihuahua Fire, which spread to 900 acres in the community of Dodge Valley off of Chihuahua Valley Road. The fire was caused by a lightning strike just after 1 p.m., said Roxanne Provaznik, a spokeswoman for Cal Fire.
As of 8:30 p.m., the fire was 0 percent contained, Provaznik said. She said Cal Fire has 31 engines, 12 fire crews, four water tenders, three bulldozers and approximately 230 firefighters on scene and that additional resources had been ordered.
The fire spotted across Chihuahua Valley Road, but there is no immediate structure threat, she said.
A second lightning fire just south of the Chihuahua Fire spread to 25 acres, according to Cal Fire.
The two fires are about a quarter mile apart and will probably burn together, Provaznik said.
Cal Fire successfully battled several other fires caused by lightning in the North County along the Palomar Mountain Range.
The largest fire in the Palomar Complex spread to one-quarter of an acre, and it and the other small fires were extinguished by 3:30 pm.
