A train struck and killed a pedestrian near Batiquitos Lagoon Thursday, authorities said.
The rail fatality near Ashbury Street and North Vulcan Avenue in Encinitas happened about 4:30 p.m., sheriff's officials said.
The victim — whose identity was not immediately available — died at the scene, Lt. Robert Smith said.
