Guests share cinematic addictions

Since Marvel's "Black Widow" just opened and Comic-Con starts this week, the latest Cinema Junkie episode celebrates pop culture by looking at the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check out this excerpt and register for the relaunch party.

Cinema Junkie is KPBS' longest running podcast and it returned from quarantine break last week. Since Marvel's "Black Widow" just opened and Comic-Con starts this week, the latest episode celebrates pop culture by looking at the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU. Here is an excerpt from the podcast.

Professor Arnold T. Blumberg taught the first college course on the MCU and describes himself as a "Marvel kid." His course used the MCU as a gateway to teach media literacy and critical thinking to students.

You can listen to the full podcast here or find it wherever you listen to podcasts.

To celebrate the return of the podcast from quarantine break, I held a relaunch party on Twitch last week where people from around the country and around the globe shared their cinematic addictions. If you missed the live event, then you can watch the rebroadcast on YouTube or Facebook this Thursday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m.

You can register for free on Eventbrite.

I will be on Facebook and YouTube to answer any questions or to just chat about movies and hear your rants and raves.

The guests sharing their passion for film include Canadian filmmakers and Twisted Twins Jen and Sylvia Soska; Nora Fiore, the Nitrate Diva; Horrible Imaginings Film Festival founder Miguel Rodriguez; Moviewallas's podcaster and Midday Movies guest Yazdi Pithavala; Comic-Con's David Glanzer; Digital Gym's Moises Esparza; Cinebra from Brighton, England; and DJ/neuroscientist Eric Leonardis.

You can also get the very first look at the new space for Digital Gym Cinema, which is currently still under construction at the new UC San Diego building at Market and Park downtown.
