A late-winter storm moved over the San Diego area Wednesday, ushering in a spell of wet and chilly conditions expected to linger through the end of the workweek.
The unsettled atmospheric system delivered widespread showers across the county through the morning and afternoon, along with some mountain snow, the National Weather Service reported.
As of 2:30 p.m., according to the NWS, the bands of dark clouds had dropped an inch of precipitation in Pine Valley; 0.9 of an inch in Couser Canyon, 0.83 in San Ysidro; 0.79 in Descanso and at Lake Cuyamaca; 0.78 at Henshaw Dam; 0.74 in Mesa Grande; 0.71 in Campo; 0.7 in Santa Ysabel; 0.68 in Echo Dell; 0.64 on Volcan Mountain; 0.62 at Brown Field airport; 0.59 in Pine Hills and Vista; 0.65 in Thousand Trails; 0.53 in Bonsall and Lemon Grove; and 0.51 on Otay Mountain.
Among other mid-afternoon moisture tallies were 0.49 of an inch in Escondido; 0.48 on Dulzura Summit; 0.47 in Alpine, Oceanside and Rancho Bernardo; 0.46 at Lake Wohlford; 0.44 in Smuggler's Gulch; 0.42 in De Luz and Mission Valley; 0.41 in Rainbow; 0.4 in University Heights and at Lake O'Neill on the grounds of Camp Pendleton; 0.39 in Harbison Canyon; 0.35 in Linda Vista; 0.33 in Ranchita; 0.29 in El Cajon, Fallbrook and Oak Grove; 0.27 in Encinitas and the Tijuana Estuary; 0.26 in Point Loma; 0.25 in La Mesa; 0.23 in Valley Center; 0.21 in Deer Springs; 0.18 in Santee; 0.16 in Barona; 0.14 in Poway; 0.04 in San Felipe; and 0.02 in Borrego Palm Canyon.
The storm also brought flurries of frozen white flakes across parts of the East County highlands, including 3 1/2 inches worth on Birch Hill in the Palomar Mountain area.
The slow-moving low-pressure system is expected to bring cold temperatures through Friday, with periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms most widespread tonight through Thursday, meteorologists advised.
A few showers could linger into early Saturday morning, followed by warmer conditions Sunday and into the workweek, forecasters said.
