Hotel for Dogs (Dreamworks/Paramount)
By Janeane White
Hotel for Dogs (opening January 16 throughout San Diego) is a movie about orphan siblings that are stuck in yet another lousy foster home and are constantly getting in trouble. When their parents were still alive they had a dog named Friday and after their parents passed away they kept the dog and snuck it to all of their foster homes. One day the dog runs off into an abandoned hotel where he finds other dogs. The kids decide that they can keep Friday there but they also want to help the dogs that are already residents there. With the help of the local pet store they are able to take care of their dogs plus all stray dogs in the city. They don't want the dogs to go to the pound because there is a limit on how long the dogs can stay before they are & put to sleep. So the kids decide to rescue as many as they can.
This is a movie that only children younger than fourteen will like. It was a good movie but I just wasn't interested in it. From the remarks of the crowd they believed it to be a good film. I recommend this movie to younger audiences. I thought that lots of the jokes were corny and I didn't get into it. I thought the actors were trying too hard, and it wasn't entertaining to people my age. This is definitely a kid's movie. Sometimes there are kid's movies that people of all ages can enjoy like The Lion King . But Hotel for Dogs (rated PG for brief mild thematic elements, language and some crude humor) was too childish. If you have little brothers and sister or children of your own, then I think this would be a good movie to have them go see.
