On Thursday October 6, UCSD's ArtPwr will host a screening of "Fleurs du Mal" ("Flowers of Evil") at The Loft at 8pm.
Hungarian filmmaker David Dusa tells a story about a young Iranian woman and a young French Algerian man. She was sent to Paris by her parents in order to escape the violence and political unrest following the 2009 elections in Iran. He's a bellhop in a Paris Hotel. Dusa employs the Internet and social media to weave a fictional romance between two displaced people. He culls real footage from YouTube, Google Video, and Twitter, to show the potential power the Internet can have in times of unrest by capturing images of violence. After the screening there will be a Q&A with the director via Skype, highly fitting considering his film. Here's a trailer of "Fleurs du Mal."
