George Lucas' "Star Wars" films have inspired a diverse array of fan art and merchandise. Tuesday night Thumbprint Gallery serves up a one-night exhibit of "Star Wars"-inspired works from San Diego artists.
AAAHHHRRRTTT!!!: A Star Wars Art Show will showcase local artwork inspired by the space opera as well as live art created on the spot by Daniel Jaimes, David Goff, Sharif I. Carter and True Delorenzo.
"Join me and Thumbprint Galley along with many talented artists from around the galaxy as we present an evening of amazing and beautiful art event from a little know Space Saga...'Star Wars,'" Jaimes said. "Thanks to a little-known space fantasy film called ‘Star Wars’ which premiered in 1977. For this 10-year-old San Diego native, it was by far the most amazing movie I’ve ever seen, which inspired me to pick up a pencil, find a quiet spot and began drawing spaceships and battle scenes from the movie which came natural to me. From that moment on I was drawing on any piece of paper I could get my hands on."
In a sense, Jaimes says, fan art is from people with a passion for pop culture who haven't quite grown up. He may call his work art a hobby but he also sells quite a lot to fellow fans who love pop culture as much as he does.
Entrance to the exhibit is free and the art work will be for sale. There will also be live music and food.
