The U.S. Border Patrol said it discovered on Friday a 142-foot long tunnel from the U.S. to Mexico, two miles east of the Calexico East port of entry. According to the agency, it is the third tunnel found in its El Centro Sector in the past year.

A statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection said an agent found the tunnel during a routine patrol along the banks of the All-American Canal.

“The agent noticed a depression in the soil,” the release said. “As the agent approached the anomaly in the soil on foot, it began to give way exposing a hole 18 inches in diameter.”

The agency said there was electrical wiring and lumber in the tunnel, which is approximately three feet high and three feet wide and begins 60 feet south of the border. No drugs were found, and no arrests were made. The tunnel is still under investigation.

Three weeks ago, agents announced the discovery of a tunnel running between a business in Mexicali and a house in Calexico. Four people were arrested and approximately 1,500 pounds of marijuana were seized.
