Service Connects Parents For School Carpools

As budget cuts continue to take a toll on school bus services in the region. The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is offering a tool for parents to help get their kids to class.

SchoolPool is a ride matching service where parents can connect with others in their neighborhood to organize carpools.

Dan Martin with SANDAG said “while the program can especially benefit those living in areas with limited public transportation, it provides a safety net for all parents in the region.”

SchoolPool is also designed to form “Walking School Busses” and “Bike Buddies” so parents can organize to accompany a group of children to school on foot or bike.

SANDAG encourages parents to join the program in order to save time, gas money and reduce the amount of cars on the road.

Martin also said “by participating in Walking School Busses and Bike Buddy trips to school, children could benefit from the more active commute and have a more positive experience getting to school.

SchoolPool is currently enrolling families for the 2011-2012 school year at www.icommutesd.com.
