Winter Storm Expected Saturday

A winter storm is expected to bring rain, mountain snow and gusty winds to San Diego County this weekend.

The National Weather Service said a strong storm approaching from the northwest will strike San Bernardino and Orange counties late tonight, then spread across Riverside and San Diego counties Saturday morning through Saturday night.

Rainfall totals will range from up to an inch in coastal and valley areas to near two inches on coastal mountain slopes, according to National Weather Service forecasters. Deserts areas were expected to receive up to a half-inch of rain.

"Runoff will develop quickly and there could be local flooding of poorly drained low-lying areas and small streams," according to an NWS advisory.

The weather service said the snow level would start out quite high this afternoon -- around 8,000 feet -- but fall to 5,500 feet by Saturday afternoon.
