San Diego: Get Ready For Another Heat Wave

Fall's here, but San Diegans might not know it without a calendar.

An early-autumn heat wave will keep things decidedly summery in the San Diego area over the next several days, according to the National Weather Service.

From Thursday afternoon through Sunday, local temperatures will be five to 10 degrees higher than normal for this time of year, courtesy of an intensifying high-pressure zone over the county, forecasters said.

The mercury will reach the high 70s to mid-80s along the coast during the period, the mid-80s to the mid-90s across the inland valleys and in the mountains, and the high 90s to upwards of 106 degrees in the deserts, the NWS advised.

Besides some patchy night and morning cloud cover near the ocean, the skies likely will be clear and the air dry for the entirety of the hot spell, meteorologists reported.

A slow cooling trend is expected to begin next week, as a weak low- pressure system builds over the region, according to the weather service.
