Noticeably cooler weather, gusty winds and drizzle are expected to develop in parts of San Diego County later Monday and Tuesday as a low pressure system heads toward California and Nevada.
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to run 6 to 12 degrees below average Monday and 10 to 15 degrees lower than normal on Tuesday, and patchy drizzle will develop overnight in coastal and valley locales, according to the National Weather Service.
That translates to forecast highs Monday of 69 to 74 degrees near the coast, 73 to 78 degrees inland, 76 to 81 in the valleys, 75 to 82 in the mountains and 97 to 102 in the deserts, and highs on Tuesday of 70 to 75 degrees near the beaches, 71 to 76 in the valleys, 67 to 73 in the mountains and 91 to 96 in the deserts.
"A developing low pressure system over the West will bring cooler weather, more extensive marine clouds and strong onshore flow across the mountains and deserts through Tuesday," according to the weather service. "Some patchy drizzle may even develop Monday night into Tuesday morning."
In the mountains and deserts, winds are expected to ramp up to between 15 and 25 miles per hour Monday afternoon with gusts to 45 mph, according to the weather service. A wind advisory for the mountains and deserts will remain in effect from noon Monday until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Motorists on mountain and desert roadways, especially those in high profile vehicles, were advised to use extra caution because blowing sand and dust may skew visibility.
Forecasters said the winds would weaken and San Diego County would warm back up to around average starting Wednesday.
