The Port of San Diego has asked cargo and cruise ships to reduce their speed when traveling in and out of San Diego Bay. KPBS environment Reporter Ed Joyce says the goal is to reduce air pollution.
The company operates the Jean Anne, which makes 26 stops a year in San Diego.
John Pasha says a review determined the ship could maintain its delivery schedule even at slower speeds.
He says the company has also modified the Jean Anne to reduce sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide pollutants.
Pasha Automotive Services operates the National City Marine Terminal auto processing facility.
Pasha says the company is using grant funds to improve the air at the terminal.
He says older fleet cars will be replaced with Hybrids and Segways.
Pasha says the company recently hired a San Diego State University MBA team to investigate other green opportunities including Solar Power generation on the facility.
