A San Diego city council committee said medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego must be able to verify their non-profit status and they should not employ minors.
The Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee passed about a dozen rules for regulating the dispensaries.
Earlier this year, the council's Land Use Committee decided marijuana dispensaries should not be located within 1,000 feet of a school or another dispensary.
Yesterday, the Public Safety Committee addressed questions of how dispensaries should be operated. In addition to prohibiting the employment of minors, councilmembers said dispensaries should not allow doctors to consult patients on site.
The committee said dispensaries must also pay some fee to compensate the city for the cost of regulating the businesses. The full San Diego City Council is expected to vote on a medical marijuana ordinance sometime this summer.
