The U.S. military has a new strategy being developed by U.S. officials in Iraq. Elements of the plan include almost doubling the size of the Iraqi Army, keeping certain territory under U.S. control longer, and negotiating with sectarian groups.
The United States would also like a more intense effort to remove what they call "bad actors" from the Iraqi government. As NPR's Tom Bowman tells Michele Norris, the plan could also mean that the United States would leave more than 100,000 U.S. troops in Iraq well into 2008.
