Buddhist monks have been in the vanguard of the fight for democracy in Myanmar, the Southeast Asian country also known as Burma. Former Burmese political prisoner Augn Din and Buddhist scholar Robert Thurman put the uprising into historical context, particularly the role Buddhist monks have played in political resistance.
