Peggy Pico to Host KPBS Evening Edition
KPBS is pleased to announce Peggy Pico as the new host of KPBS Evening Edition. Pico, who was the station’s Science and Technology Reporter, will officially begin hosting the evening news program beginning July 2.
Pico originally joined KPBS in 2010 and has covered a wide range of stories including advances in mental health, biofuel, cancer research, and more. She recently hosted KPBS’ radio coverage of the primary election from Golden Hall. Pico spent two years covering biotechnology and medicine in the Bay Area before returning to her hometown of San Diego and joining KPBS. She also previously reported for NBC 7/39 where she worked as a medical and science reporter for five years.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of KPBS Evening Edition,” said Pico. “It’s an amazing opportunity to cover a broader range of topics and talk with the diverse people in our community. I believe every person has a story to tell. I can’t wait to hear those stories and share them with our viewers.”
Hosted by Peggy Pico. Newcast Co-Anchor is Dwane Brown.
Pico will work with a team of reporters and producers on the show, including Dwane Brown, the show’s co-anchor and reporter. As previously announced, the show’s original host, Joanne Faryon, will join the KPBS investigative unit as Investigative Producer. The move underscores the station’s commitment to fact-based reporting and deepens its existing partnership with Investigative Newsource, a nonprofit journalistic enterprise embedded within the KPBS newsroom.
“With a major election upon us, it’s critical that we have the resources to keep our community informed,” said Tom Karlo, KPBS General Manager. “The investments we’ve made to our newsroom in general and to KPBS Evening Edition and the Investigative Unit in particular will allow KPBS to stay at the forefront of quality, enterprising journalism this community expects and deserves.”
KPBS is a public service of San Diego State University, serving the region with TV, Radio and Internet content that is educational as well as entertaining—and free of commercial interruption. KPBS Evening Edition airs weekdays at 6:30 p.m. on KPBS TV.
