From a retro soul music show to a poetry reading and an unusual film screening, here's a preview to some of this month's top events happening around San Diego.

Feb. 6-28 Game Changer 2: Contemporary Art from the Strauss Family Foundation

Contemporary art from around the world will be featured at this USD exhibit, which goes through the end of the month in the Exhibit Hall of USD's Student Life Pavilion. It includes 18 works created within the last 30 years. Many of the pieces have never been displayed at a college campus before. The majority of the artists whose work is featured hail from Latin America.

Feb. 6 Myron and E at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar

The vocal duo, Myron (Myron Glasper) and E (Erik Cooke), have a retro-soul sound. Local DJ Claire Caraska calls it timeless soul music with lots of sweet harmonies over a lot of strings and horns. Myron & E's debut album, Broadway, was released last summer and they've enjoyed success across the U.S. and internationally.

Feb. 22 Cibo Matto at The Casbah

After a 14 year hiatus, Cibo Matto is back! Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori make up the New York City-based art-pop duo who are well-known for their colorful songs. Their new album, Hotel Valentine, comes out Feb. 14. NPR has a preview.

Feb. 20 Laundromat Candy at ArtLab Studios

Do you secretly enjoy watching bad movies? So do many others and they get together every month at ArtLab Studios in Normal Heights. The unusual movie screening features a team of comedians who will offer funny commentary. A suggested $5 donation will get you, popcorn, beer and wine and supports the show to keep it running. This month's movie: Titanic II.

Alice Bag, a pioneer of Southern California's early punk rock scene will be in San Diego this month reading from her memoir 'Violence Girl: East L.A. Rage to Hollywood Stage, a Chicana Punk Story'. It'll be a combination of music and excerpts from her book. The event is at Ducky Waddles Emporium in Encinitas on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 pm.
