The Routine didn't win NPR's Tiny Desk Contest; that honor went to Los Angeles' Naia Izumi. But singer Bryan Barbarin's dance moves and energy during the band's performance of "Funk Like This" caught the judges' eyes.
"We did it in two takes and didn’t overthink the concept. Bryan ripped a desk out of the wall and just did his thing with it," guitarist Russell Ramo wrote in an email about their submission video. "We hit 10,000 views with that video, which is the most we've ever gotten on any of our videos, so thanks NPR!"
The Routine was named best rock group at the 2015 San Diego Music Awards and was a finalist in the category this year. Their new album, "Puddin," releases on June 2. The Routine joins KPBS Midday Edition on Tuesday with performances of "Funk Like This" and "Babylon Love."
