The racist insult, "Go back where you came from!" is familiar to many San Diegans. The racist refrain is hurled casually at Americans and immigrants alike.
The phrase has gotten heightened attention in recent days because of a series of weekend tweets posted by President Donald Trump and directed at four democratic congresswomen, all American citizens, who frequently criticize his administration.

In one tweet Trump said, "So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world..."
In another he said, "...go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came..."
In a news conference on Monday, the four minority congresswomen, Reps. Ayanna Pressley D-Mass., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., reacted to Trump’s tweets.
"This is the agenda of white nationalists," Omar said. "This is his plan to pit us against one another."
