The San Diego Repertory Theatre's Latinx New Play Festival returns for the third year on Friday.
From comedy to drama, the festival will feature a new series of works by both emerging and veteran Latinx playwrights from across the United States.
There will be four staged readings along with a showcase production of "57 Chevy," starring actor Ric Salinas, a member of the writer/performer collective "Culture Clash." The play follows a Mexican family as they moved from their homeland to a diverse East Los Angeles neighborhood and later into the suburbs.
Festival producer Maria Patrice Amon said this year's festival shares stories about gender, humor, class, Afro-Latinx perspectives and LGBT communities.
Amon and playwright Eliana Pipes, who’s work "Dream House" will be presented at the festival, joined Midday Edition Tuesday with a preview.
