Neil Young Is Vindicated As Amazon Debuts High-Quality Music Streaming Service
Neil Young, one of the most famous musicians of our time, is praising Amazon for becoming the first large music streaming service to offer a high-quality option.
Amazon's high-fidelity digital audio service, Amazon Music HD, was launched Tuesday.
Young said in a statement that Amazon offering a high-quality streaming option “will be the biggest thing to happen to music since the introduction of digital audio 40 years ago.”
For years, Young has been working on ways to improve the quality of the music his fans hear. He partnered with engineer Phil Baker to create the "Pono player," an iPod like device that could play high-quality music, but it debuted when streaming music was becoming the new norm. That caused Young and Baker to pivot and create an online streaming site for high-quality audio, neilyoungarchives.com.
Baker credits Young for Amazon offering this new high-quality service.
Baker and Young co-authored a book about Young's journey. Baker joined Midday Edition Wednesday to discuss Young's mission to save high-quality audio.
