Workers at the Dover Air Force Base mortuary dumped the ashes of at least 274 fallen servicemembers into a Virginia landfill between 2004 and 2008, according to records obtained by the Washington Post. And the Post is reporting the Air Force has no intention of notifying the families of those whose partial remains were dumped.
That's not all.
According to the Post:
This latest disturbing news of Dover AFB mortuary ash dumping comes a little more than a month after a report by the Air Force Inspector General found grisly errors at the mortuary concerning fallen servicemembers' body parts. In one case, mortuary workers sawed off a dead Marine's arm so it would fit inside his uniform. This was without the family's consent.
As Home Post previously reported, a Pentagon probe headed by Army Gen. John P. Abizaid is underway into the disconcerting practices at Dover.
