Alleged Dorner Victim Was Former Camp Pendleton Marine

Michael Crain, the Riverside Police Department officer allegedly shot to death by Christopher Dorner, was a former Camp Pendleton Marine.

According to a Riverside PD news release, Crain joined the Marines about a year after graduating Redlands High School:

Crain then served two deployment tours in Kuwait as a rifleman in the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. He was a squad leader, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

After returning from Kuwait, Crain was based at at Camp Pendleton, where he taught Military Operations in Urban Terrain.

The Marine Corps awarded Crane the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 1 star, a Certificate of Commendation, and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge during his time in the service.

Crain, 34, is survived by his wife, Regina, son, 10-year-old son Ian, and 4-year-old daughter Kaitlyn.

Crain is believed to have been shot to death by ex-LAPD cop (and former Navy reservist) Christopher Dorner in the early morning hours of February 7. Crain was on patrol at the time with a trainee officer, and parked at a stoplight.
