As Home Post reported Tuesday, the suicide bomber's target was believed to be a U.S. military delegation attending a security briefing. However, the victims were nine Afghan children walking home from school, along with Sisson and Pierce.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
