The Navy will decommission the USS Thach on at Naval Base San Diego on Friday.
Home Post will live stream the decommissioning ceremony at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
The Thach has been in service 29 years. The navy commissioned the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate on March 17, 1984.
Sequestration cuts forced the ship to return to home early from its final deployment earlier this year.
During that shortened deployment, the Thach took part in counter-illicit trafficking operations off the coasts of South and Central America, disrupting drug shipments worth $10 million.
Thach’s commanding officer Cmdr. Hans E. Lynch said of the final deployment and impending decommissioning...
“From conducting counter-narcotics operations to maintaining freedom on the high seas, the ship has been through a lot in its 29 years of extraordinary service to our country’s Navy.
“I am grateful for the crew’s dedication to the mission. It is an honor to be the decommissioning commanding officer of a wonderful ship.”
