Army veteran Steven Holcomb earned the United States' first medal in two-man bobsled since 1952 on Monday, according to the Washington Post.
This is the second time Holcomb has snapped a U.S. Olympic medal drought. In the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games, he was on the team that placed first in four-man bobsled. It was the first time since 1948 the United States had won gold in bobsled.
Holcomb told ESPN after winning the Bronze Monday night:
"To go away breaking those two droughts, it really is a good feeling and to know we're going down in the record books. I know all the names from back in those days and hopefully it's not another 62 years we have to deal with."
Up next for Holcomb is the four-man bobsled, which is scheduled for Feb. 22-23.
Army Capt. Christopher Fogt will be a member of Holcomb's team, along with Steve Langton and Curt Tomasevicz. Fogt explained his optimism about how the team will perform to USA Today Sports:
“If anyone can do it, it’s Holcomb. He is the best pilot in the world.”
