San Diego County plans to spend $322,000 a year for covered and secure parking spaces for District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis's staff.
The board of supervisors approved the expense for 130 spaces earlier this week. In a letter to supervisors, DA Dumanis said downtown parking in San Diego and at the Hall of Justice, where her office is located, is in short supply.
She said her investigators make an average of three trips per day and need parking that's close to the office to minimize the amount of time spent not working. The $322,000 the county spends on parking for Dumanis' staff will come in part from grant money from the California Department of Insurance, Prop. 64 funds and Real Estate Fraud Prosecution money.
The expenditure comes at a time when the county is grappling with deep state budget cuts, dwindling tax revenues and investment losses.
