San Diego business leader Julie Meier Wright announced today that she will retire as president and chief executive of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp., effective June 30.
A national search for a replacement will be undertaken, EDC chairwoman Debbie Reed said.
Wright, who joined the business-boosting EDC in 1997, helped win passage of the $14 billion TransNet measure and established closer ties with businesses in Baja California. She was the state's first Secretary of Trade and Commerce and served in Gov. Pete Wilson's cabinet from 1991 to 1997.
Reed, an executive vice president with Sempra Energy, said the group was focused on a smooth transition and "hiring a new CEO that will take EDC to even greater levels."
Wright will remain with the EDC in a consulting role through the end of the fiscal year.
