Roundtable: The Kavanaugh Controversy
California Senate Race
Senator Dianne Feinstein is facing criticism for waiting to reveal allegations of attempted rape by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Feinstein was first made aware of the claim several weeks before Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. His accuser is considering whether to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week. Feinstein’s election opponent, California State Senator Kevin de León, is among those questioning her handling of the matter.
Border Wall Designs Compromised
Documents obtained by KPBS News show the vulnerabilities of various border wall prototypes ordered by President Donald Trump. Several forms of testing resulted in wall mockups being compromised and breached. In other immigration news, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is weighing whether to limit bond hearing procedures for certain asylum seekers, further limiting how these cases are reviewed.
Tent Shelters Renewed
The San Diego City Council voted to spend an additional $8.5 million on its tent shelter program. Several structures were put up late last year to help the city’s homeless population transition into more permanent housing solutions. The extra funding will keep the tents in operation for another nine months. Meanwhile, voters will be asked in November to approve a statewide bond to fund affordable housing programs under Proposition 1.
