Amtrak Launches New Express Surfliner Traveling To LA

Amtrak today launched an express run of its Pacific Surfliner service, designed to get business travelers from San Diego to Los Angeles by 10 a.m.

Train No. 563 will leave San Diego at 7:05 a.m. weekdays and is scheduled to arrive at its final destination by 9:33 a.m. -- about 15 to 20 minutes faster than usual, said Vernae Graham of Amtrak.

The northbound run will stop at stations in Solana Beach, Oceanside, Irvine and Anaheim. Stops at San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Orange and Fullerton will be skipped.

There is no corresponding southbound express run in the one-year pilot program, Graham said.

Northbound trains leaving at 6:10 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. will continue to stop at all the stations.
