Heavy rain and mountain snow will hit the San Diego region later today. A National Weather Service (NWS) advisory warns of flash flooding and strong winds.
Forecasters say rainfall is expected to be heavy a times, and will last through Saturday night. The storm is expected to bring 2 inches of rain along the coast and valleys, and up to 4 inches in the mountains, according to the NWS.
By Sunday morning, the snow level could drop to about 3,000 feet, according to NWS.
"People should stay informed on this approaching storm,'' the NWS advised. "The rain will cause slick roads. Snow, blowing snow and fog will make travel hazardous in the mountains. People planning travel in the mountains late (today) and Saturday should be prepared for winter weather conditions.
A flash flood watch is scheduled to go in effect from 1 p.m. today to Saturday afternoon. Also, a gale warning -- meaning winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring off the coast -- is scheduled to go in effect from this evening through Saturday morning.
