California Highway Patrol officers arrested 34 impaired drivers in San Diego County between New Year's Eve and Friday morning, compared to 20 DUI arrests in the year-ago holiday period.
Statewide, a total of 510 DUI arrests were made on freeways and in unincorporated areas between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Friday, compared to 457 in the comparable year-ago holiday period, according to the CHP.
One fatality was reported on San Diego County roadways during this year's holiday period, with eight deaths elsewhere in the state, according to the CHP.
Last year, 14 fatalities were reported statewide, but none in San Diego County. The fatality total accounts for all traffic deaths in the state. T
