A pair of brush fires that blackened around three dozen acres alongside Interstate 15 in the Deer Springs area were 95 percent contained Thursday morning.
The fires erupted for unknown reasons roughly a half-mile apart on the west side of the freeway near Castle Creek Country Club about 3 p.m. Monday, Cal Fire said. Fire crews have been working round-the-clock to extinguish the smoldering blazes.
The fires, which moved to within about a quarter-mile of each other while scorching an estimated 35 combined acres, caused no reported structural damage or injuries, Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez said.
The fire initially prompted authorities to close a southbound freeway lane, but it has since been reopened, Cal Fire said.
