Capitol Hill Update: Bush's Budget, Iraq Plan

Tom Fudge: The war in Iraq continues to dominate policy discussions this week in Washington. Republicans in the Senate have managed to prevent a resolution, condemning the president's troop increase, from coming to a vote. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has scheduled a debate on the Iraq war for next Tuesday.

On the subject of spending, Democrats have harshly criticized George W. Bush's budget. The spending plan calls for $245 billon in new money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan this year and next. The budget also recommends an extension of the president's tax breaks and cuts to domestic programs.
