Share Your Story
This documentary tells the story of America's Black Patriots. Now it's your turn to tell yours. During your service to this great nation, you shared unique experiences, moments of heroism, acts of courage, and above all, a love of liberty. Now you can share your story or the story of a comrade with other visitors of this site. Or, perhaps you're a close friend or family member of a United States Army Veteran. Salute your Soldier's years of dedicated service by sharing his/her story. Stories can be told through text and uploading a photo.
To illuminate the largely untold experiences of African Americans in the United States’ armed forces, this special serves up history, from as far back as the Revolutionary War to the conflict in Afghanistan. Ten years in the making, the mini-series examines why, despite enormous injustice, black men and women fought for freedoms they did not enjoy.
Introduced by General Colin Powell and hosted by Academy Award-winning actor Halle Berry, the film uses letters, diaries, speeches, journalistic accounts, historical text and military records to document the sacrifices made by African-American military personnel. It also includes readings by a wide variety of actors, such as Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Susan Sarandon, Lou Gossett Jr., John Travolta, Ossie Davis, John Goodman, Danny Glover, Sam Elliot and Delroy Lindo, among others.

The US Army launched an educational site to support the documentary. The site features educational materials for educators, multimedia content for students, and provides African American veterans with the ability to showcase their personal service. (http://www.forloveofliberty.net/)

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!!! My Grandfather who passed at the age of 94 in 2002 was among these Fine Representatives of Humanity. YOU have done a Justice in revealing some truths of how this country was forged by the Strength of the Black Family. I say Family, because you have related the Heart Felt strength of both the Husband & Wife of the Black Family while they (the whole family) endured both the times of state war and the war of racial repression.
WELL DONE!!! To Gen. Colin Powell, Ms. Halle Berry & The Supporting Cast.
Respectfully,
Mr. RJAIII
